Build the product from inside their world: what Tata Motors actually did
In 2016, Tata Motors partnered with creative agency Rediffusion Y&R, condom manufacturer HLL Lifecare, and logistics company TCI to launch Dipper, a condom brand for truck drivers. The name came from the phrase 'Use Dipper at Night', painted on the back of Indian trucks. Distribution ran through 'Khushi Clinics' placed near truck stops in Ludhiana, Kanpur, and Vashi.
The tension it resolves
Public health products tend to feel clinical and outsider-made. Dipper felt like something already inside truck driver culture, so it did not trigger the rejection that standard condom campaigns did.
The challenge it solved for Tata Motors: How do you reach a closed or stigmatised group that ignores every standard category campaign?
The mechanism
The product name, brand identity, and physical distribution points were all built from codes that truck drivers already lived with every day, so the product felt familiar before anyone had to be persuaded.
